[Mat 16:18 KJV] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Notes:
Peter = a small rock
“Rock” = a big boulder see: Isaiah 28.16
Gates of Hell = Death see: Psalm 9.13
Read it again: “That thou art a small rock, but upon this boulder [Jesus] I will build my #church ; and death shall not prevail against it.
In our opinion, Jesus is saying:
1. The Church will be built upon him, the boulder, not the small rock. In prophecy Jesus is referred to a cornerstone, and a rock in at least 2 places.
2. Usually death ends a movement because the movement is dependent on the people promoting it. But #Jesus didn’t die. Death did not prevail against him. And for those who keep the commandments and do good works and have forgiven others, death won’t prevail against us either.
