Jesus on his Motives

In order to know and understand The Lord more, we must look at the motives and reason he gives for doing what he did. Religious people have long written scripture by claiming Jesus came here for one reason or another. Or that he did such and such act for one reason or another. But the great thing about Jesus, is he very often tells us why . Disciples should ponder and discuss the reasons Jesus gave, and challenge people who write their own scriptue.

Some of these are Jesus’ own words, and some are words about Jesus in the 3 Gospels.

Matthew 1:21  “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His  name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Matthew 2:5-6  So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it  is written by the prophet: ‘But you, Bethlehem, [in] the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ “

Matthew 9:6, 12-13 KJV – But that ye may know that the Son of man  hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine    house. …  But when Jesus heard [that], he said unto them,             They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.           But go ye and learn what  [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Matthew 10:34-36 KJV – 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth:I came not to send peace, but a sword.  For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes [shall be] they of his own household.

Mark 2.16-17

And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, “How it is that he eateth and   drinketh with Publicans and Sinners?”

Luke 1:16-17 KJV
And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.  And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
Luke 4:18-19 KJV
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to  preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 5:30-32 KJV

For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
Matthew 15:24  I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of  Israel.

Mark 14:24, 48-50 KJV And he said unto them, This is my blood of the  new testament, which is shed for many. … 48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me? 49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled. 50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
Luke 1:68-79 KJV – 68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 69 And hath raised up an horn of  salvation for us in the house of his servant David; 70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:    71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. 76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; 77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Luke 2:34-35 KJV – 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts  may be revealed.
Luke 4:18-19 KJV – 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19  To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
