Jesus on Eternal Life

ETERNAL LIFE & FORGIVENESS REQUIREMENTS

ORDER OF VERSE:

  1. How to inherit eternal life
  2. How to be forgiven. How to not receive forgiveness
  3. How to receive Mercy and See God
  4. Jesus’ warning those who reject the law, “lawlessness”.

In the 3 Gospels Jesus answered directly to the question what must someone do to inherit eternal life. You will likely never find a Christian pastor, theologian, missionary, elder, bishop, reverend, or evangelist use these verses when talking about what the requirements are to have eternal life.

Jesus never once mentioned ‘grace’. He also did not tie faith or believing [Same word in Greek] to attaining eternal life. He did tie faith to bodily healing. The word “saved” can mean eternal salvation, or bodily salvation from illness. “You saved my life”, is a close comparison. Luke 7.50 and 8.50 are examples of bodily salvation from illness.

However, in every instance when asked about Eternal Life, Jesus lists the law and commandments, he also ties works into it , see Matthew 25 below, and other verses.

Matthew 19:16-19 KJV – 16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none  good but one, that is, God: 18 But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Mark 10:17-31 KJV – 17 And when he was gone forth into the way,  there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. 20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him,

One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. 22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

[JESUS REPEATS HIMSELF TWICE ABOUT PEOPLE WITH RICHES, IN HEBREW IT MEANS ITS ESSENTIAL, IT CANNOT BE AMENDED ]

23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? 27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. 28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you

[WORKS] There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

[LAW]Luke 10. 25-28: And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” 27 So he answered and said, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ” 28 And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”

THE JUDGEMENT: WORKS AND LACK OF WORKS DETERMINES YOUR ETERNAL DESTINY

Matthew 25:31-46 NKJV – 31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 “All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 “And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 ‘for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 ‘I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 ‘When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 ‘Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 “And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Matthew 5:7-8 NKJV – 7 Blessed [are] the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed [are] the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

Matthew 19:27-30 KJV – 27 Then answered Peter and said unto him,  Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have  therefore? 28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. 30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

FORGIVENESS

Matthew 6:14-15 NKJV – 14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 “But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

WARNING ON THOSE WHO REJECT THE LAW:

“Lawlessness is a state of not keeping the law”. [Note the law Orthodox Jews follow is not the law in scripture. They have added laws, erased law, and twisted law largely do to the influence of the Talmud]

Matthew 7:23 NKJV – 23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!
Matthew 13:41 NKJV – 41 “The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness,
