10th Command: Honor Thy Parents

COMMAND

Exodus 20:12 KJV – 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

BENEFITS OF KEEPING THE COMMAND

Deuteronomy 5:16 KJV – 16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

 

JUDGEMENT FOR CURSING

Exodus 21:17 KJV – 17 And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

 

JUDGEMENT FOR SMITING

Exodus 21:15 KJV – 15 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

JUDGEMENT FOR BEING STUBBORN AND REBELLIOUS. ALSO BEING A GLUTTON AND A DRUNKARD:

Deuteronomy 21:18-21 KJV – 18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: 19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; 20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. 21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

 

JESUS CAME TO DIVIDE FROM MOTHER AND FATHER

Matthew 10:35 KJV – For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

 

WE MUST LOVE JESUS MORE THAN MOTHER AND FATHER

Matthew 10:37 KJV – 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

 

LEAVING FATHER AND MOTHER FOR THE GOSPEL

Mark 10:29-30 KJV – 29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

 

JESUS DEFINES WHO IS HIS MOTHER AND FATHER, HIS DISCIPLES:

Matthew 12:48-50 KJV – 48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
